Shark wheels setup

Shark Wheels Skatepark Review

View our range of Shark Wheels at Aylesbury Skateboards. Available in 60mm or 70mm online and in store.

At Aylesbury Skateboards we are always open to trying different skateboarding setups, this time it came in the form of some new wheels from Shark Wheels. These are not you’re typical wheel they have the perception that they are cuboid shaped because of the rad and very different design, but are just as and if not smoother then any other long-board or cruiser wheel. Carrying on from the design side of things, these incredible wheels have curved grooves to push stones and such through them, this gives you an advantage if you live in a rocky or rough area to get your shred on. This also means that riding or landing into grass has become a lot easier as I found out. Whilst riding these unique wheels I found that the grip is in no way effected by the shape and the grooves, it still has a amazing amount of grip for taking you round corners and winding in and out of obstacles that may obstruct your path.

FullSizeRender (1)

With the great grip comes the speed side of things, the wheels come in 60mm and 70mm which means that of course you are going to gather speed but I did not expect the speed that I got from them. Bombing down a massive hill on my way into work was when I realised that these where something special and worth a look at. I paired the Shark wheels with an old Mother Collective 8.5″ skateboard deck. A pair of 151 Thunder Hollow Lights and some Bones Reds bearings which was an excellent match. Even though these wheels are meant for cruising we managed to get a few tricks together and made a little edit in order to show just what they are capable of.  Wheels are £69.99 UK retail price.

VERDICT: Overall I believe these wheels have worked their magic on me and made me fall in love, they are a real head turner and deserve a serious look.

We have a range of tees, caps and decks available in our store and online. We’ve also got a hoodie, a ridiculous but rad knitted sweater and even some god damn pillows. Who wouldn’t want a cat giving the fingers and a green alien head to cuddle up to every night? Well, you might not but you know girls will dig it.

We’ve got a re-up on the classic Lord Nermal pocket t-shirt in black and 2 new colourways for our store, grey and navy. To accompany the Nermal, we’ve got the brand new Lord Alien pocket tee. It’s a tough choice between them we know so you might have to just get both. If neither of these take your fancy then you might just be tickled by the Nermal Finder t-shirt which features both the Lord Nermal and Lord Alien reconstructed as the Apple Mac Finder icon. Continuing with the cat and alien theme we have 2 tees that we hugely appreciate at Aylesbury Skateboards. These are the Nine Lives tee and the Trust Nobody tee. Basic but sweet. Plus ya know you can relate to them. All t-shirts are £29.99

As the colder weather has struck, you may have been caught out without some warmer clothing. fear not, Rip N Dip can save you. We have the Nermvana Pullover Hoodie in black available. This hoodie features a Nermal rendition of Nirvana’s Nevermind album cover. It’s pure gold. If you’re wanting something a bit smarter that your family will love then we’ve got the Fallin For nermal knitted sweater. It’s ridiculous, but it is sick there’s no denying. Hoodie is £69.99 and the sweater is £64.99

We have a variety of 5-panel and 6-panel caps available from the Holiday 15 range along with some beanies seeing as in the cold weather has arrived, you might want to keep your dome fresh and warm. Rip N Dip headwear is a good choice for whatever shaped head/goofy haircut you may have. In fact it might just save you! Caps are £34.99. Beanies are £23.99

Rip N Dip have done exceptionally well since moving in to the hardware game. Obviously they specialized in clothing and apparel but they have slowly but surely been on the up with their decks. More designs and sizes come out with each new collection and we will say this for sure, they are rad. Decks are £54.99

To top off all this radness, we have 2 super cute, super dope Rip N Dip pillows. Lord Nermal and We Out Here. As stated above, you know you’d want these but if not then you know that the ladies will want them and if you have them then the ladies will want you (not guaranteed, at all). These are a very good size and at £25.00 each, not bad at all.

At a very affordable price with undeniable great quality, Seven Skates completes will kickstart beginners in to becoming a passionate skateboarder in no time. These are like none of the other price point completes available on the market right now.

Utilising the highest quality components while maintaining an achievable retail price point, Seven Skateboards has left no stone unturned to make the industry’s best entry level skateboards. Seven Skateboards believe that all skaters whether they be beginners or advanced should have access to great quality products no matter what price point they are in.

Seven Skateboards has created a product consisting of 7 ply Canadian Rock Maple deck and the highest quality hardware accessories that are both price conscious and performance aware.

The deck is made by PS Stix who are world renown for their high quality wood and manufacturing meaning you’re getting a board that is built to last.

When it comes to buying a skateboard, it should be seen as an investment. The more you put in, the more you get out. Generally, spending more means that you’re going to get a higher quality skateboard which is going to last significantly longer before wearing out or breaking. Spending £60 on a complete skateboard compared to £30 for example means you’re getting a product that is built with superior materials and better construction which is designed to survive the knocks and bumps of skateboarding.

In our opinion, a Seven Skates Complete is the next best thing to buying a custom complete which will easily set you back over £100 . The quality on these completes is some of the best we’ve ever seen for the price and we couldn’t recommend them enough. These are a great starting point for getting into skateboarding as you’ll be able to upgrade and customise it whenever you see fit.

View our range of Seven Skates complete skateboards here. You won’t be disappointed.

Program Skateboards Cover Image

Introducing: Program Skateboards

We are pleased to announce that come early September, we will be stocking Program Skateboards, a new board company by Michael Sieben. This will be the first ever drop from Program so it’s definitely not worth missing.

Here is an extract from the Program website to give you a bit of background about the brand:

On May 16th, 2015, I was digging up the courtyard in front of my house when my shovel hit something hard. I thought it was a rock, but what I actually found was super crazy: a buried chest. After tracking down a pair of bolt cutters (it was locked), I cracked the thing open and had a genuine holy-moly moment. Inside I found five animal skulls, loads of unprocessed Super 8 film cartridges, a Super 8 camera, a Polaroid Land Camera, a slide carousel (filled with slides), a photo album, a journal, a book about puppet making, a few cassette tapes and three puppets. Needless to say, I was floored. I became immediately obsessed with the find and put all other projects on the back burner.

Quick rewind: a few months prior to finding the chest, Stacy Lowery and I were working on a new skate brand called The Program. But after finding this buried treasure, I totally dipped out. I couldn’t think about anything else. Stacy kept trying to get ahold of me to work on our company and I kept putting him off—telling him I had to focus on this mystery. He eventually suggested making The Program all about the treasure chest. That very same day I read this passage in the found journal, “I was unable to finish the program. I hope whoever finds this can do so for me.” The Universe was screaming at us.

So I’ve spent the past few months pouring through the contents of the chest. The guy that buried it was named Samuel (I haven’t been able to find a last name) and I’m assuming he lived in my house at some point. Based on the notes in his journal, he was (again, I’m assuming) emotionally unstable. He thought that the puppets he’d created were possessed and/or haunted. Stacy and I are currently working on getting all of the Super 8 footage processed and transferred in order to figure out what Samuel’s program was all about. Because at this point, his program is our program. And our program is The Program. We hope you’ll Get With The Program and join us on this journey. —Michael Sieben

We instantly fell in love with the whole idea and mystery revolving around the brand, especially the creepy haunted puppets. Sieben has turned the images he found into some great board graphics that we just had to get behind. They are reminiscent of some graphics from Welcome Skateboards and Heroin Skateboards with their vibrant, cartoony graphic styles which you really can’t fault.

Heres some excerpts of the catalog of the boards we grabbed from the pre-order. Can’t wait to see what they’re like in real life, and more importantly to find out how the skate.

Aylesbury Vale Skatepark 2015

On Wednesday 5th August it was the official opening of the refurbished Aylesbury Vale Skatepark. It was a small turn out due to it being mid-week at 1pm and a lot of the locals are big boys now with responsibilities, but nonetheless there were nothing but good vibes.

A few of the locals got chatting to the council members expressing their joy for the new park and how it has already attracted skaters from surrounding areas, something that hasn’t happened down vale for who knows how many years!

Further on in to the day we had a mini competition covering three obstacle within the park. These being the tombstone gap, stair set and the curved ledge and wall. We topped it off a large game of skate which got pretty tense towards the end between two of the locals. Three out of the four were won by Sam Barker, an 18 year old with a damn load of talent that covers a broad spectrum of skateboarding.

The new Aylesbury Vale skatepark caters to a variety of different styles of skateboarders such as the techy ledge wizards, the impact stair set skaters and a bit to the gnarly transition riders. With nothing too large nor too small, this really is a great place to get learning and to also test your already known skill. We really hope that this park spawns a new breed, a new generation, a new scene of skateboarders to the town of Aylesbury.

Bronson Speed Co Bearing Detail

Bronson Speed Co. Bearings Review

When the new park opened I decided it was time for a new setup giving me a chance to finally try out the Bronson Speed Co bearings. Anyone who has been keeping up with skate news has bound to have heard of them and i’ll be surprised if you’re not at least a little interested. For years now Bones have been a solid choice for bearings (Namely the Bones Reds) but if these are as good as they claim to be, I doubt you’ll ever use a set of Reds again.

The Bronson Speed Co G3 Bearings claim to be the perfect skateboarding with a range of crazy technologies going into them.

  • Deep Groove Raceways – The balls roll deep in raceway channels which reduces side impact damage & breakage.
  • Straight Edge Frictionless Shields – These shields are pop off resistant and hold oil in while keeping dirt and moisture out making them easy to clean.
  • Micro Groove Raceway Surfaces – Linear micro-groove surfaces improve bearing lubrication, speed and spin.
  • Max Impact Cage Design – Non-distortion custom cage keeps the balls precision spaced & oil circulating.
  • Balls Out Technology – Eliminates shield and cage contact on impact for a go fast, stay fast bearing.
  • High Speed Ceramic Oil – Nano-ceramic compounds for wear protection – moisture, rust, corrosion resistant.
  • Factory Fresh Quality – Nitrogen filled shrink wrap, reduces metal & oil oxidation until ready to be ridden. Means that you can leave these bearings in storage for years and they will still be factory fresh when you finally open them.

If that bulleted list doesn’t make you tingle you obviously have something wrong with you. It takes a special bearing to last a few years without seizing or popping and by the sounds of it these bearings should tick every box.

They come in an amazing metal presentation tin with a slide off lid. Inside of that you have the 8 bearings as you can expect. Then Bronson are kind enough to supply you with a full set of 4 spacers for inside the wheels and 8 washers as you’ve probably already lost these before. The bearings themselves have bright orange shields, one with a black stripe on it to indicate which way around it goes in the wheel.

I’ve been skating them for a few weeks now and they’re definitely the best bearings I’ve skated. Before these I was skating Flip HKD Abec 5’s and I loved those too, much nicer than Bones Reds (in my opinion) and a little cheaper too. Straight out the tin they roll forever and are super smooth and quiet. Even now they are still silent when rolling around at the park, making a nice change from the usual racket put out from broken in bearings.

The park at the moment is surrounded by mud as they were trying to grow some grass, meaning the board has landed in there plenty of times. Even then, the shields have managed to keep all of the dirt out so they are still running as smooth as ever.

For the £29.99 price tag I can definitely recommend them. You may be paying twice as much as you would for a set of Bones Reds but the quality jump is much more. I’m sure they could easily outlast them too making them a very worthy investment.

You can buy the Bronson Speed Co G3 Bearings from Aylesbury Skateboards online and in store now.

AYLESBURY VALE SKATEPARK NOW OPEN

The long awaited skatepark is finally open! After a rainy Wednesday morning, we heard news of the park finally being cleaned up and opened to the public. We left the skate shop early and went down there to have a push about and throw down a few tricks on its opening day.

Everything is just straight up enjoyable. Everywhere you looked the skateboarders, rollerbladers and bmxers alike were loving it. The curve ledge was a winner, as were the stairs but the tombstone to manny pad seemed to be a favourite for most. None of us here at Aylesbury Skateboards or any of the locals had skated a pad like it so it was very refreshing and we believe it is going to be enjoyed by everyone that bothers to travel to our rad new local (and the rest of the park of course!).

You can tell it pushed people to skate hard and to their full potential as the new park managed to claim 3 boards in the space of a few hours which we thought was somewhat impressive.

Here is a mini edit from the opening day, hopefully many more videos of the new park and maybe some Aylesbury street footage to come:

And here is a small gallery of images of the park. Credit goes to Bendcrete Skateparks for building the park and taking these great pictures (minus two of them). Photos were taken from their Facebook page.
